OUR STORY

Founded 15 years ago by two wildlife photography enthusiasts, what began as a humble private shelter has now evolved into a retreat with a larger number of keys, encompassing the very knowledge that nothing can speak of an authentic Yala experience like living amidst wildlife and becoming one with the natural habitat. Guided by core principles revolving around paying utmost respect to the environment, local communities, and the creatures that roam these lands, Yakaduru Yala caters to the needs of the modern traveller without compromising its promise to the wilderness or its inhabitants.

SUSTAINABILITY MEASURES

Reforestation and land restoration efforts

At Yakaduru Yala, guests who depart during monsoon season participate in a transformative ritual, where hands in soil sow seeds of hope and renewal. This tree planting activity cultivates a profound bond with the land, restoring ecosystems. We also hasten to fill the local lakes during the dry season by sourcing water bowsers, ensuring animals do not suffer the painful pangs of dehydration. Further, Yakaduru Yala actively encourages land conservation, having reclaimed over 40 acres of farmland to date, reverting it to its wild essence. Here, families find new beginnings in designated settlements, while our footprint remains minimal, ensuring every action echoes a commitment to sustainable tourism.

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE AND TOURISM

By prioritising natural materials, we tread lightly on the earth, minimising our ecological footprint while nurturing local biodiversity. Palm leaf roofs whisper tales of tradition, blending into the lush surroundings. Hot water does not pour from our open showers, protecting small bugs and insects, and preventing any harm caused to the local bee population. Meanwhile, tranquillity is given royal treatment here. No loud music disrupts the slumber of the wild, replaced instead by enchanting flute melodies by our staff at evening dinners to entertain guests. Every little aspect of Yakaduru Yala is thoughtfully executed to show our love towards nature and wildlife.
